Abstract:
Shaded relief image of Montana's topography. This image is based on the April 2002 version of the National Elevation Dataset. The brightness of each pixel represents the calcluated reflectance of a 30 by 30 meter area of land.
Purpose: Pictorial representation of Montana's landforms.

The reflectance value of the pixels in this data set were based on the slope and aspect calculated for the pixel from the National Elevation Dataset.

Process step:
Convert the National Elevation Dataset to a hillshade grid with the ESRI HillShade command, with the sun azimuth set at 315 degrees, the sun altitude at 70 degrees, and vertical exxageration of 2.

Convert the hillshade grid to image format with the ESRI GridImage command.
